The history of CSR Digital

Founded over 30 years ago, CSR Digital has evolved from managed print specialists into a fully integrated provider of managed print, IT, telecoms, and workflow solutions—trusted by organisations nationwide.

From the beginning to our 30th Birthday!

Here’s a brief history of CSR Digital from our formation to the present day:

1994

Our company is born

Copier Sales & Rentals, a partnership between Paul Rowden with 10 years’ experience servicing Canon Copiers and Mike Jones with 20 years selling Panasonic copiers.

The combined strengths allow us supply and service Panasonic and Canon copiers from our base in Kiln Farm, Milton Keynes.

  • We love what we do and enjoy our work, but that doesn’t mean we take ourselves too seriously – except when it comes to customer service. That is something we never joke about.

1995

We start selling Canon colour copiers

At this time very specialised. They run at 4 pages per minute and are used to print via a special computer branded as a Fiery RIP.

1998

We take on A Rex Rotary dealership

This allows us to sell the latest digital copiers from Ricoh, well known for high-quality printers, digital duplicators and multifunction printers/scanners/copiers.

2005

Connecting copiers to a network

Allowing copiers to print and scan grows in popularity as customers appreciate the cost and speed advantages of a copier against a desktop printer.

2001

Ricoh launch a new product

A revolutionary colour office copier with colour speeds up to 28 pages a minute using drum units inline along a straight paper path.

2004

Paul takes ownership of the business

And creates the limited company CSR Digital Ltd – to reflect the new age of digital devices.

2006

Sales of copiers explode

Sales of colour copiers explode to offices as customers realise the large cost savings as well as quality and speed against inkjet colour printers.

2013

James Rowden joins the company

 James Rowden, Paul’s son, joins the company from Kyocera, strengthening the sales side of the business and bringing with him multiple contacts from leasing companies.

2014

We join Olivetti

We Join Olivetti as a dealer, selling Konica colour copiers and Kyocera mono printers. We also start working with German bank Grenke and bring on multiple contracts introduced by a local IT company.

2015

We expand our service department

and take delivery of our first branded van..

2016

We move to larger premises in Crownhill, Milton Keynes.

2018

Vincent Willoughby joins the team

Vince joins the team from Olivetti strengthening our IT and connectivity expertise even further.

Demand for software and scanning solutions including PaperCut, Y-Soft and Scanshare continues to climb.

2020

We move to Rushden, Northamptonshire

We expand further and move into 2,000sq ft premises in Rushden, Northamptonshire, giving us a ground floor warehouse, upstairs offices, storage rooms for parts and toner, a workshop and parking bays for our branded vehicles. 

2021

We continue to expand even further into IT and comms

and we start working with the award-winning Sargent Shoes, a company first set up back in in 1899.

2022

We branch out into unified comms.

Technology which streamlines multiple forms of communications – voice, video, personal and team messaging, voicemail, and content sharing – into one interface.  

2023

Carl Cliffe, our new Service Manager, comes on board from Konica with 30 years experience.

2024-2025

Our 30th birthday celebrations continue.
